Blogging Britain’s Foreign Policy

September 29, 2007 · Leave a Comment

We cannot quite decide what we think of the decision by kool-young-hep-cat Foreign Secretary David Miliband to institute a series of FCO blogs. On the one hand, open democracy.2 is nice – but on the other hand, it can lead to travesties like the CNN/YouTube Democrats debate (and don’t worry if you missed the Democrat one, the Republican one is coming up in November 28). Basically, these served a singular pointless purpose, that was to show us all how absurdly premature the election campaigns have been running this time – forcing ratings famished networks to plunder new depths to reach out, to, uh, “the kids” we guess.

We have already attempted to post a couple of comments on “David’s blog”, to no avail (they were friendly, too) – still, we will keep a watchful eye on this attempt and see where he goes with it. We would, however, point to his Chatham House/Avaaz.com speech which was “net-connected” and (we heard from trusted spies on the ground) plagued by technical problems as a possible prelude to what may be in store.
